History

Extremely harmonious blend of romantic past and exciting challenges of today - that is the feeling when entering the interior of small and cozy tavern “Zijavica". The discreet touch of wood and stone bathed in pastel colors creates the impression of domestic and very pleasant atmosphere. Terrace, situated just a few inches above one of the most beautiful beaches of Kvarner, is really a special place - perfect for experiencing small masterpieces of the Kvarner and Istrian cuisine.

Over 40 years of long-lasting family business - fishing - has been upgraded to the next level: cooking and serving great and fresh food in tavern “Zijavica”. A team of young chefs take traditional ingredients to meet challenging approach of modern cuisine on the same plate of a small cozy tavern. In its finely tuned menu shrimp, octopus and many other seafood delicacies stand next to well-known meat and vegetable specialties of continental Istria.

Flicking through menu of Zijavica tavern, the choice is not easy - though there is little dilemma because everything sounds so good. Marinated red mullet, warm and cold fried codfish, oven-baked octopus or surprisingly tasty wild tuna? Modern dishes of raw fish specialties or authentic meal served in the same pot in which it has been prepared? Perhaps a istrian “boskarin” beef steak or stew - or even a tuna carpaccio - every pick seems to be the right one. The selection of wines is equally great because every great plate simply has to have a worthy partner in the glass.

Besides the only obstacle - that strange and difficult to pronounce name of Moscenicka Draga - there is a small, intimate fairytale that outlines the long pebble beach separating the deep green coast and lively azure waves. In a few narrow steps between the sea and the mountains lays the picturesque fishing village: stone houses and colorful facades, a tiny harbour crowded with barges and boats. Every step through this idyll devoid of modern times stress, is a step towards the serenity and internal peace.
